About the Exam
The Exam is 10 minutes long. There are two parts, up to 5 minutes each:

Discussion of a prepared topic (up to 5 minutes)
You choose a topic to prepare in advance of the test, for discussion with the examiner. You must complete a Topic Form in advance and bring it with you to the exam.

When choosing your topic, you should choose a subject that you know a lot about and can talk about with the examiner for up to 5 minutes such as: a hobby, holiday, your family, your job, your home country.

The examiner uses the information on the Topic form to help begin and develop a discussion about your chosen topic area. You do not need to try to memorise what you are going to say.

Conversation on two subject areas (up to 5 minutes)
You have a short conversation with the examiner about two subject areas chosen by the examiner.

This gives you the opportunity to have a real and interesting exchange of information, ideas and opinions, while showing you are capable of using the language correctly.

The examiner chooses any two of the following six subjects to talk to you about:

Subject areas:

  • Festivals
  • Means of transport
  • Special occasions, eg birthday celebrations
  • Entertainment, eg cinema, television, clubs
  • Music
  • Recent personal experiences
