The aim of this 4-day in-class course is to study 40 carefully selected essential oils with the particular emphasis on their safe use and methods of application. The course is designed to enable the members of the general public as well as those who use essential oils in their products (cosmetics, perfumes, soaps, candles, etc.) to make educated and responsible choices and to blend them in synergistic way suitable for their planned uses.

Whether you are a mom trying to help your family or a supplier selling essential oils to the general public or a cosmetic/perfume/candle maker, we all have one responsibility towards ourselves and others – to use essential oils safely so their benefits and beautiful aromas can be enjoyed without any worries.

The popularity of essential oils is on the rise. It has never been easier to obtain them and the selection on offer can be as exciting as it can be mind boggling. As for the advice on safe dosage and methods of application it is a bit of a… Russian roulette! With various internet sources providing inconsistent and often poorly researched information (including promoting some truly irresponsible ways of use) we also hear about adverse reactions and ‘accidents’ following essential oils application.

Some studies and trials also assess the safety of essential oils (e.g. possibility of skin irritations, carcinogenic, mutagenic or teratogenic effects, etc.). The results of those tests are taken into account by regulatory bodies to create ‘guidelines for safe usage of fragrant chemicals and essential oils in perfumes and skincare’. The new EU Regulations EC No 1223/2009 for cosmetic production also addresses the issue of safe inclusion of essential oils and follows majority of IFRA’s recommendations.

In this short course we will present you with up to date information inc. safety, research, reference books and reliable suppliers.

About this course

This course is open to anyone interested in safe and effective use of essential oils, especially cosmetic makers, soap makers, candle makers, essential oils suppliers, as well as other members of the general public who would like to use essential oils for themselves or their family members.

Please note that this course is not an equivalent of the Diploma in Aromatherapy and does not result in any type of qualification that would allow you to refer to yourself as an aromatherapist or essential oils practitioner/therapist or to use essential oils to treat anyone unless you have a pre-existing qualification in aromatherapy.

Following the attendance of this course you will not be able to seek insurance to be able to treat anyone or to make recommendations on the use of essential oils for any health conditions to the members of the general public.

If you are a massage therapist, reflexologist, osteopath, sports therapist or any other therapist you will not be able to use essential oils in the treatments you provide unless you obtain full qualification in aromatherapy.

Cosmetic makers, soap makers, candle makers and essential oils suppliers will need to follow the relevant legislation and apply for the applicable public liability insurance to sell their products regardless of attending this course.
