Essential skills in recall training
A practical and theoretical course in all aspects of recall training.
Recall without doubt is the most important exercise that one can teach a
dog and the most common problem presented to a trainer.
To be successful with recall, you have to be able to teach many different
methods so that you have a solution for the pet dog owner. That is what we
teach.
This is a work-based programme that includes self-study,
analysis and evaluation of information and ideas. There is a mandatory
1-day workshop which is a core element of the module.
The module, split into three phases, can be undertaken at any time and over
any reasonable period within Maximum of one year (normally completed in
3-6months) (normally completed in 3-6months) from the date of
registration.
Phase 1 is delivered as a distance learning phase.
You research and identify potential or current problems and the relevance
of correction using training techniques and explain how and why erratic
recalls are triggered
Select and use an appropriate range of equipment
to assist in the control and training of recalls. Please note that you
must allow a minimum of six weeks study of phase 1 before your workshop
date (Phase 2).
Phase 2 is a highly structured programme building on
the topics from the professional work environment of phase 1.
This
phase includes among other topics:
-
Use of equipment for controlling dogs with recall problems
-
Hands-on work with dogs that have recall problems
-
Training dog owners to resolve recall issues
Phase 3: The time period for phase 3 is a minimum of six weeks. A distance
learning phase that brings together the activities of the two previous
phases. Delegates will be required to relate the practical experiences
and knowledge gained from phase 2 to their initial research, analysis,
learning and experiences from phase 1, contextualising and applying the
knowledge gained to their professional activities
