Event Management BA (Hons)

  • I have really enjoyed this course so far. The lecturers always try their very best to find us great opportunities, which is very important especially for a course such as Event Management, where hands on experience is required. We have had the opportunity to go to many exciting places such as, Berlin, Amsterdam, China and South Africa as well as many different places around the UK. The course content is very good although contact hours are quite minimal, however if I needed more time with the lecturers to help me with any queries about my coursework or exams, I know all I would have to do is ask. Overall it is an excellent university who try very hard to offer their students the very best university experience.

This Event Management course runs in 2016/17.

The events industry is rapidly developing across its broad spectrum including sporting events, corporate events, music and festivals, together with special events such as wedding planning. This dynamic course is designed to meet the specific demands of this fast-paced and exciting industry.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This course allows you to engage directly with companies in the event industry, allowing you to take your academic theory straight into the practical arena. To help you to become a successful event manager, we develop your skills in research, decision-making, communication, customer service, teamwork and leadership.

If you choose this course you will benefit from:

  • links within the event industry via the School' extensive contacts in the field. Opportunities in the past have included associations with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Ltd. (LOCOG), helping to organise and participate in events run by the British Council, including the Going Global 2013 Conference in Dubai, working in various event roles at major music concerts at the NEC, NIA and the Ricoh Arena and operating as event co-ordinators at the World Cup Rugby Sevens event in Moscow;
  • the School's international network within the event industry also includes key collaborations in the Far East, Russia, Dubai, Qatar, the United States and Brazil;
  • experienced teaching staff who bring professional and research expertise into their teaching;
  • practical experience of working on event management projects through our extensive volunteering network. This allows you to engage with industry partners and progress through each stage of an event, covering aspects such as the bidding process, design, costing, logistics, marketing, implementation and feedback with the client;
  • academic field visits and volunteering opportunities help build your CV and apply your management theory;
  • the opportunity to participate in international workshops and conferences. For example, our students have participated in workshops at universities in Groningen and Cologne;
  • working in collaboration with Coventry University’s Students’ Union providing a range of events for clubs and societies, as well as being actively involved with the organisation and delivery of a number of key university events;
  • Coventry Business School is currently a member of European Foundation of Management Development (EFMD), the Association for Business Schools (ABS), Association for Events Management Education (AEME) and International Council on Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Education (ICHRIE).

You will cover the following core course themes: management, strategy, finance, event marketing, entertainment industry practice, project management and venue operations management, economic impacts of events and international event management.

You will also learn how this translates into practice on industry placements and voluntary projects throughout the course. You will also develop key IT skills specific to the events industry such as Eventsforce software training.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Your course will be based on a series of lectures and smaller seminars or workshops.
