Course outline
During the course you will look at how groups and individuals have effected change locally, nationally and internationally.
You will explore how policy is influenced through campaign and dissent and the real impact that protest has had upon our world.
You will explore contentious political and social issues and be encouraged to look at all sides of an argument. This will then lead to you taking action to effect change within the college or wider community.
You will project manage and reflect upon the action you have taken to ascertain its effectiveness and how well you worked.
Please note - If taken as part of the Diploma, the topic must either complement and develop the Principal Learning component of the Diploma or support your progression and development.

Assessment
The project is assessed entirely via a Project Log and Report. You will produce a portfolio of evidence and make a presentation about the action you undertook, assessment is weighted as follows: Management 20%, Research 20%, Development 40% and Review 20%, 50 marks are available in total.

Key features
The extended study is an excellent opportunity to give you the advantage over other students in the competitive university application process. It defines you as someone who is able to work independently beyond the traditional confines of A level study, to manage your time and learning and to make a contribution to the wider community. These are the very skills, attributes and interests that the top universities are looking for in undergraduates and the course gives you the opportunity to show that you have what is required to succeed at the very top.

Progression
Any voluntary work you undertake will be looked upon most favourably by both Universities and employers. It defines you as some one capable of working beyond the curriculum, a person who is self motivated and able to successfully project managed, working to targets and review their work.
