Course programme

A free standing qualification which is also part of an Advanced Qualification and is worth half an ‘A’ Level. The qualification is assessed A-E through a portfolio of evidence and attracts UCAS tariff points whilst strengthening the programme of study and testing a wider variety of skills, whilst preparing students for the rigour of university.

Who should take this qualification?

Students who are aiming to go to university as not only will it potentially increase your portfolio of qualifications but it will also develop your independent thinking skills, research skills, analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as your argumentation and essay writing skills.

Admissions tutors have already indicated that they would look favourably on students who have completed this qualification.

How the course is run

The course will commence in November of Year 12 (with limited places). Students will undertake 30 guided hours of study in the late Autumn and Spring terms, in which you will develop ICT, research, project management and project working skills.

Students must then agree a project with their mentor. The report can be a 5000 word report, short report and artefact, presentation and short report or other medium, but whichever, it must be agreed first with your mentor. Students produce a project submission for approval. Once approval has been received students then carry out independent research and produce ‘the project’ having just one mid project review. You should allow approximately 90 guided hours for the completion of ‘the project’.

Students should then complete project and hand in in October of Year 13 for a November submission. You will have an end of project review with your assessor.

There is no examination - the final grade comes from the project proposal, project, production log and the evaluation.
