About this course

Candidates should have been employed within an extrusion environment for a period of no less than 3 months and have some knowledge and experience of the process requirements. As this is an LSC funded programme, candidates must also meet the eligibility criteria for Train to Gain programmes.

Course Content

The course comprises an integrated programme of both theory and practical application sessions providing a good understanding of the extrusion process, and involves both on-course and in-company assessment of associated working knowledge and practices to NVQ Level 2 Standard.

Objectives of the course

On completion of the course the delegates will be able to:

  • Identify process hazards, state safety requirements and apply safe working practices
  • Start-up and shut-down an extrusion line safely and efficiently
  • Detail the control and operation of an extruder
  • Identify relevant ancillary equipment and describe its usage and maintenance
  • Describe the nature of plastic materials and list common types and grades
  • List common production faults and suggest remedial actions
  • Detail the safety, communication, quality and handover requirements associated with the candidate’s specific extrusion based production process

Individual candidates will be required to collect evidence of existing knowledge and process involvement, prior to the course, and both during the course and afterwards in company. They will be assessed and certificated where successful, against both the BTEC Extrusion Qualification X6130, and the NVQ Level 2 Extrusion Standard.
