About this course

Candidates should have been employed within an extrusion environment for a period of no less than 3 months and have some knowledge of the process requirements or they should have completed our pre-course questionnaire and achieved a score of 25% or above.

Course Content

The course is a blend of theory and practical application sessions to provide a basic understanding of the extrusion process and associated working practices.

Objectives of the course

On completion of the course the delegates will be able to:

  • Identify process hazards, state safety requirements and apply safe working practices
  • Start-up and shut-down an extrusion machine safely and efficiently
  • Detail the basic construction, control and operation of an extrusion machine
  • Identify relevant ancillary equipment and describe its usage
  • Describe common die construction principles and simple maintenance procedures
  • Describe the nature of plastic materials and list common types and grades
  • List common extrusion problems and suggest remedial actions
  • State common quality systems, techniques and quality requirements associated with the extrusion process

Individual candidate knowledge levels are assessed both pre and post course attendance, after which a management report is provided to help identify any further training requirements or career progression possibilities.

Qualification

Polymer Processing Certificate Part 2.
Material covered has been aligned to the content of an NVQ at Level 2 and can be used as underpinning knowledge towards achieving the award, if so desired.

For Telford course delivery, an additional BTEC award is issued for successful completion at the end of course assessment.
