Through a combination of studio work, practical exercises and excursions, this course will introduce you to both the design and promotion side of the fashion industry. Delivered from within our dedicated fashion studios and workshops, you will experience the full fashion design process, starting with research, translation and drawing techniques, through to garment design. Ideal for those who are considering further studies or a career in fashion, this course will also introduce key concepts in fashion promotion, editorial and blogging.
This course is designed to encourage your creative thinking and build confidence in expressing your own ideas as well as developing your design skills and knowledge of the fashion industry. You will be guided through initial research and fashion analysis sessions using techniques including collage, 3D experimentation and work on colour and styling. You will explore drawing styles and fashion illustration - a key skill for those wanting to join the industry – and learn how to express your designs figuratively. You will deconstruct and sketch garments as well use experimental workshops in draping, pattern cutting and fabric to inform your own garment design.
You will have a chance to get out and about in London for a course study trip, visiting important fashion collections as well as fashion hot spots to sketch and photograph street styles. Tutor led seminars will explore the ‘business’ side of the fashion industry including blogging, advertising and fashion editorial. You will also learn how to showcase your work for presentations and prepare a fashion folio. At the end of the course there will be a professional photo shot to record your finished garments with exhibition and group critique of work produced.
