About this course

At the University of East London, we’ll give you a thorough grounding in the old and the new. We value traditional handcrafts as highly as today’s computer-aided design tools. Our students become experts in both.

We’ve spent a lot of time safeguarding traditional handcraft skills, with our textile and print workshops and sewing workrooms. We also know that in a digital age, you need the best tuition in areas such as computer technology, laser cutting, and 3D printing. We pride ourselves on our creative 3D design teaching.

Over your three years – or four if you go on a year-long placement – you’ll explore new approaches in different areas, with workshops on technical skills such as pattern cutting to business-geared skills like fashion branding.

The modules you take will give you expert insight and advanced knowledge of working practice. By your last year, you'll be perfectly equipped to follow your own path as you design your final, major project.

We’ll make sure you have the best shop window in which to showcase your design talent. Indeed, the results of that talent could end up on display in high street shop windows!

In 2014, for instance, one of our students, Krasimira Ivanova-Stoyneva, won a top international competition, sponsored by Vogue and Scandinavian fashion line MUUSE, to find the brightest new talents in fashion.

Krasimira’s prize, after being picked out by Vogue Italia’s senior fashion editor, was the chance to collaborate with MUUSE on her own dazzling collection. It will be sold online by MUUSE and in specialist boutiques in 2016.

You’ll get noticed on our course - especially with the opportunity to display your skills at the annual Graduate Fashion Week show, attended by some of the business’s leading creative talents. Some of our students helped organise it in 2014.

We’re proud that our students go on to make their names as designers, design coordinators, pattern cutters, fashion technologists, product developers and retail managers.

As one of our graduates Lucy Johnson, who now owns streetwear label Brahboys, says of the course, “It was a fun and emotional experience that I’d recommend to anyone thinking of a career in fashion."
