The BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Marketing is an innovative and challenging programme for students who wish to become customer-focused designers. The programme integrates theoretical understanding with practical, hands-on experience to develop your creativity as well as your business acumen and ensure you are prepared for employment. You will learn about fashion markets, the consumer and fashion marketing strategies enabling you to produce designs and construct clothing ranges around well-researched consumer needs and industry trends. As well as marketing skills, you will explore the practicalities of the design process and build technical skills in areas such as drawing, computer-aided design and pattern-cutting. The BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Marketing will allow you to discover your own individual design style by going through the fashion design process from the initial concept through to creating your own fashion collection for the graduate fashion show. About this course
Study methods You will receive high quality teaching and much of this will relate directly to the contemporary fashion industry. You will do a lot of hands-on work where you will apply the theory you learn to practical, industry-related projects. You will study alongside other fashion and design students, and you will look at and debate matters that are pertinent to the current fashion industry, and to society, culture, and world issues. Your learning will be enhanced by relevant opportunities and activities such as: working on live projects and competitions working with industry contacts and sponsors attending talks by industry specialists and networking with industry contacts studying abroad with us in Paris Your programme will combine methods of tutor-led teaching with tutorial support, and also studio-based teaching with individual and group critiques. Length
This is a three-year programme, or four years if you begin on the Integrated Design Foundation. Each academic year is split into two 12-week terms.
Additional information
This programme will enable you to develop as a trend interpreter, equipped to produce designs based on well-researched consumer needs and commercial environments.
As well as marketing knowledge, you will acquire design and technical skills in drawing, computer-aided design, textile creation and garment contruction.
You will explore the evolution of fashion and current industry issues. You will also be able to develop knowledge in a specialist area such as events production, fashion PR and fashion styling.
