Who the Course is For:
This course is for anyone who is interested in learning the basics of making garments in a professional way, but who is not able to commit to a full time course.
Assessment:
Assessment is ongoing throughout the 13 weeks.
Course Leads To:
You may consider undertaking a further short part time course or progress to a full time course at level 2 or level 3.

- selecting fabrics
- creating a lay plan & cost sheet
- developing and putting into practice professional sewing skills
On this course you will be taught the basic skills of taking simple designs through the pattern cutting stage, selecting fabrics and using sewing machines and overlockers to make an A line skirt. You will use both industrial and domestic sewing machines to sew different seams, hems and insert zips etc as well as some hand sewing techniques as necessary. You may have the opportunity to add some decoration through techniques such as embroidery or applique.
At the end of the course you will have learnt some useful skills which can be used to make clothes for yourself and your family and perhaps developed an interest in the technical side of fashion that you would like to take further through another course.
