UCAS Code: C22 Course Code: L521 The Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies is a two year full-time higher education course which aims to give students the required theory and knowledge to work with children and young people as well as the necessary practical skills and attitudes. The course leads to a Foundation Degree qualification validated by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Successful completion of the degree may lead to progression to many higher degrees or to further professional training, eg. social work, teacher training, nursing. Career opportunities would typically be in child oriented/family projects. A QCF Childcare qualification in professional practice can be studied alongside the FdA and is recommended.

About this course

One A level or equivalent. Students may be accepted with no previous qualifications if they have relevant experience on the basis of an interview. Access qualifications welcomed. Decisions are made on an individual basis following interview. All full time applicants must apply via UCAS using the course code L521. Part time applicants can apply online or by using the college applicaiton form available from all campuses.   • Student support available on site, ranging from learning support for study skills, through to financial advice, internet guidance and personal counselling
  • Flexible delivery enables students to accommodate their studies into their busy lives

Progression to many degrees or professional training, eg. social work, teacher training, nursing. Employment may be gained in local child care projects.

There are several educational progression routes such as the BA Care Studies at Coleg Sir Gar but personal advice will be given upon interview and successful completion of the course.
