Entry requirements For 2017 entry onwards: applicants must have 80 UCAS points from two A' Levels or level 3 equivalent or an Access to HE Diploma. Students must also hold GCSE grade C or above English and Maths or equivalent. The Institute also encourages applications from students who lack formal qualifications. All applicants will be interviewed, set a piece of work (1500 word essay) and a judgement made taking into account their academic potential and relevant practice experience. All applicants must undertake a target skills assessment as part of the admissions process. Applicants are strongly encouraged to include evidence of relevant practice experience in sector. All students must complete a minimum of 200 hours of mandatory work placement over the duration of the programme. Students are expected to complete relevant health screening questionnaires (when necessary for placement requirements) and DBS checks before entry into any work placement. The programme also offers articulation onto one of the Institute's honours degree top-up programmes. The course provides the essential and transferable skills for individuals to succeed in the social care sector. Learning & Teaching Methods Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential. A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, interactive lectures, seminars, workshops, group work, student led seminars, tutor-led seminars together with peer support. Integrating a work-based or placement opportunity, students will be visited in the workplace by a member of Institute staff to ensure a positive partnership between the employer mentor and to monitor that learning in the workplace is effective. Workplace learning is designed to support the development of an employable graduate equipped with the attributes, skills and knowledge to progress within a global market.
