Course Summary
This course is designed for those who have a commitment to health and sport and a passion to make an impact on health and lifestyle in society. Students will have access to excellent facilities. Teaching staff have in-depth vocational expertise from the public and private sectors, as well as research interests in exercise, the psychological aspects of sport, and contemporary issues in sport and health.
Course Structure
First year modules include:
Anatomy and Physiology for Sport and Exercise, Exercise, Physiology and Testing, Advanced Training Techniques, Social and Psychological Perspectives, Sports Injuries and Therapy, Work Experience as a Resource for Learning, and Personal Development.
Second year modules include:
Contemporary Issues in Sport, Nutrition and Weight Management, Research Methods, Stress Management and Health, Work Experience as a Resource for Learning, and Research and Problem Solving.
Work Placements
A significant element of learning for this course takes place in the work place and students are expected to have a work placement or current employment in the sport or health sector. For those who do not have appropriate employment in the sector, assistance will be given in securing an appropriate work placement.
Assessment
A combination of written reports, examinations, laboratory papers and practical assessments will be required as part of the course.
After the Course
Graduates will have developed knowledge of sport, exercise, health, fitness training and sports development and will be better placed for professional employment and career development in those sectors. Alternatively students could progress to the final year of a related Honours degree at UCS.
