The assessment contains 1 compulsory unit as follows:
Unit 44. Fell Standing Stems.

Candidates must successfully achieve all Assessment Activities unless otherwise specified.

Assessment and site requirements:

• An experienced ground person must work under the direction of the candidate (the Assessor may act as the ground person).

• The assessment should be undertaken on a medium sized standing stem that has had the crown removed in previous operations.

• The stem should have a minimum height of 5m and a diameter of at least 380mm.

• The candidate should be equipped with a rear handled chainsaw in good condition and of an appropriate guide bar length.

• The candidate should be equipped with sufficient fuel and oil, appropriate to the make and model of the chainsaw, for the assessment.

• The candidate should ensure that the worksite is signed as appropriate.

• In addition to the relevant requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998, any ancillary equipment used for this assessment must also comply with relevant requirements of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998 where applicable.
