Field Trips
The Windmill Estate is an ideal setting to put academic studies into practical setting. Our staff are accredited by the Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme (CEVAS) ensuring visits are safe and educationally worthwhile. We can assist in producing cross curricular learning activities for all key stages and subjects including geography, science, art, mathematics, history , English.
English:
Speaking and Listening
- Describing events and experiences through group discussions and interaction.
- Reading Using non fiction and non literary texts.
- Writing Communicating with others, organising and explaining information.
Mathematics:
- Using and applying numbers, calculations, mental and written maths, use of calculators, money calculations, problem solving, estimation, handling data e.g.
- Estimate how many bales in the barn, how much milk a cow produces, its retail and wholesale value, how much land to grow enough wheat for a loaf of bread, animal weights and growth rates etc.
Science:
- Life processes and living things:- Food chains, adaptations, identification.
- Materials and their properties:- Common materials and why they are used.
- Forces and motion:- Push and pull - farm machinery
- Breadth of study:- First hand and secondary data, identification and study of local animals, plants, pond dipping, stream pollution etc.
Geography:
- Settlements - There is a Roman Villa, Saxon Village, Medieval bridge & Montacute House within the vicinity.
