Why study BA(Hons) Film Studies?
Film engages, informs and inspires audiences around the globe. It influences the way we see the world, and gives us insight into ourselves and into the experience of others. Studying film deepens our knowledge of the creative, cultural and commercial forces that shape cinematic forms and their audiences. It also increases our understanding of the role of the arts in contemporary society.
Why study our course?
On this course, you will enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of cinema by studying over a century of film from around the world. Leading academics will introduce you to different styles and forms of filmmaking - from contemporary blockbusters, star vehicles and independent movies, to documentaries, silent shorts and avant-garde experiments. We will study American, British and world cinemas, and learn about the social, cultural and economic changes that affect them. We will also examine film criticism, marketing and festivals, and explore the ways in which films are produced and consumed.
Real world experience
In addition to developing your academic research and writing skills, you will learn how to write and present criticism for different platforms, markets and publications, and to use industry standard software to produce digital content. UWE Bristol's magazines, newspapers and blogs provide opportunities for you to hone and showcase your writing and multimedia skills. We encourage all our students to volunteer at film festivals and other events and venues in Bristol. You can also gain valuable experience and contacts through internship opportunities in the city's thriving film and television production sector.
Where it can take you
On graduating, your high-level skills in written and oral communication, critical analysis, research and creative thinking will equip you for a broad range of careers as well as postgraduate study. Our graduates go on to work in a variety of rewarding professions across the creative,...
