Course description If you're passionate about film, fascinated by Hollywood, and want to know how the global box office revenue in 2015 was worth almost $40 billion, then this Film Studies A-Level is the perfect course to find out more about the fast-paced, ever-changing film industry. You'll study the whole business of Cinema, from the glory days of Hollywood to the industry changes that have led to the rise of streaming services like Netflix. You'll look at how Hollywood operates today, and compare the key differences with the British film industry. You'll analyse a wide variety of film texts, decoding their meanings, focusing on the emotional responses they generate from audiences and appreciating media as both entertainment and an art form. Looking at silent, black and white, and foreign films, you'll learn the circumstances surrounding their production and understand how time and place influence filmmaking. You'll even have the opportunity to create your own film narrative, either written or visual, within a genre of your choice.

Entry requirements You'll need to have a keen interest in all genres of film and cinema to enrol on this A-Level course, as well as at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including both English and Maths.
