Library and information managers are increasingly expected to manage complex financial resources; to develop and interpret budgets and financial statements; to make a case for financial resources and also to negotiate value-for-money contracts with their suppliers.
This intensive one day workshop recognises that many people are anxious about managing their budgets. The day will be very practical and participants will be supported to carry out a range of exercises including understanding and interpreting financial statements, using financial information for decision making and planning, and making a case for financial resources.

Keith Bonson joined Hudson Rivers from the BBC where he was Head of Library and Information Research and latterly, Head of Support Services for BBC Libraries and Archives. His experience prior to the BBC was mainly in the academic sector, working at senior level in Leeds, Iran, and East London, before becoming Deputy Librarian at Manchester Polytechnic. Keith leads Hudson Rivers' work in consultancy and has particular interest and expertise in the areas of quality management, managing change, financial, performance and project management. He has recently worked with a range of clients including the DTI, Home Office, the NHS, Kings College and CILIP.

Beryl Morris established Hudson Rivers in 1992 and leads the work on training and development. Previously she was a Chief Officer with the London Borough of Newham, Senior Lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University), Assistant Polytechnic Librarian at the Polytechnic of East London and a Management Adviser with the Industrial Society. She works with a diverse range of clients in the public and private sectors including universities, local authorities, commercial and government organisations and specialises in training in leadership, management and communication skills.
