This degree programme is designed to build your wider financial knowledge and transferrable skills. The course includes topics such as finance, investment, economics, accounting and marketing. You will also have the opportunity to study for a professional qualification during the course of your degree that is recognised in the professional sector. Exemptions, recognitions, memberships and centre status shall be renewed in accordance with the relevant bodies’ standard review process and subject to the University maintaining the same high standards of course delivery.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

During the first year, you will study a range of subjects including Personal Finance, Introduction to Business, Business Economics and Marketing, as well as numeracy and IT skills for further study in finance and investment. You will also undertake the first module towards a professional qualification.

In the second year, you will begin to specialise in financial topics including Principles of Financial Investment, Financial Services, Business Accounting and Economics of Banking and Finance, while having the opportunity to continue studying elements of marketing and the second stage towards a professional qualification.

In your final year, you will study more specialist finance subjects such as Insurance and Pensions, Investment Analysis, Portfolio Management, International Finance, Financial Management and have the option to produce a dissertation. You will also have the opportunity to complete your professional qualification.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Your course will be based on a series of lectures, with associated seminars and workshops. You will benefit from regular meetings with an academic personal tutor who will review and discuss your progress and will be available for advice. You will have access to additional academic services such as academic writing and numerical support. There is also available a range of non-academic support functions.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

An estimated percentage breakdown of how your final grade is assessed is as follows: formal examinations 50%; coursework, tests, essays 40%; group work 5%; presentations, posters etc. 5%.

TEACHING CONTACT HOURS

In a typical week you will have up to 14 contact hours of teaching and this will break down as:

Personal tutorial/small group teaching: 2 hours of tutorials each week

Medium group teaching: 6 hours of practical classes, workshops or seminars each week

Large group teaching: 6 hours of lectures each week

Personal study: 22–24 hours of studying and revising in your own time each week
