Who is this course for?
If you want to learn more about making informed and confident decisions when managing your finances or if you would like to progress into a career in the financial services industry this course could be for you. This course will enable you to develop a range of skills and knowledge on money management.

What are the entry requirements?
At least four GCSEs grade C, including English and Maths or above, or an Intermediate level GNVQ with merit or equivalent with GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths. You will be required to complete an English and Maths assessment.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

  • You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.


What qualification will I receive?
On successful completion of the course, you could achieve an AS level grade A-E in Financial Studies.

Where can it lead?
You can also study the Financial Studies Diploma. This qualification is a useful addition to your Higher Education applications. Successful completion of this qualification provides you with a recognised entry-level qualification for a career in financial services.

What will I study?
Subjects you will study include three units: Why Money Matters, Risk and Reward and Making Personal Financial Judgements.

How will I be taught?
Study on this course is in the form of theory and practical sessions. Teaching strategies will include lectures, class exercises, working in groups, research, video, presenting to a group and discussions. You will be required to spend an addition of at least 20 hours on private study.

How will I be assessed?
Students will be assessed through formal examination for each unit. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are examined electronically. Unit 3 is examined by a paper-based examination.

You will have access to a personal tutor to help you throughout the course and the College offers a comprehensive range of student services, including learning support, language support and guidance.
