• A fine art course to enable you to identify, construct and build your creative thinking and practice.

• Throughout this programme, you will be able to experiment with various materials and techniques while developing individual projects and creative practices.

• Teaching approaches are wide, varied and responsive including individual & group tutorials, workshops, lectures, seminars, live projects, collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches, creating strong links between experimentation of materials and media and the developments of ideas.

• Access to a wide range of workshops and supported making across media including 2D (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography), 3D and expanded making (sculpture, installation, performance), Digital and new technologies (film and video, digital media, sound)

• You will be supported by highly experienced staff, active as artists, and with access to excellent individual studio spaces, technical workshop and installation facilities. There will be an exciting range of visiting professionals and visits to regional and national exhibitions and events.

• From Studio to Situation you will have opportunity to participate in exhibitions, work placements, and international study visits, gaining beneficial employment skills and insight of different contexts.

What modules are covered?

The course uses a blended approach to practice and theory creating a strong link between the experimentation with materials and various media and the development of ideas.

Modules are likely to cover the following topics:

Constructing Practice
Practice, Collaboration & Exposition
Art in Context

Year 2
Reconstructing Practices
Continuous Practices & Collaboration
Theory in Context
Artist & Industry

 There may be changes to topics/titles during the final approval stages of the programme.

How will I be assessed?

The modules are integrated into a programme of assessment through submission of ongoing studio based practical research and accompanying contextual research and writing.

What is the entry process?

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Full level 3

A good portfolio of work plus one of the following:

200 tariff points at ‘A’ level

BTEC National Diploma with an overall grade of MMP

Successful completion of Level 3 Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design

International Baccalaureate with 28 points

Or other relevant experience.

Minimum qualifications: Most applicants will have studied at A Level, or will have passed a National or Extended Diploma or a Foundation Arts programme. Other applicants will have a good portfolio of work or will have worked independently creatively.

What else do I need to know?

This new Foundation degree will be start of the journey for most students to BA(Hons) Fine Art.  On completion of the FdA students will have the choice to continue studies with the Fine Art team at Warwickshire College or progress to the final year of an Honours degree programme at a local university.  Either route provides BA(Hons) with just 3 years of full-time study.  Alternatively, part-time study is available commencing with study FdA over 3-4 years. The course is flexible and there is possibility to switch from full-time to part-time study, or vice versa, after starting the programme.

What can I do after this course?

Students graduating from this Fine Art course are creative, resourceful and versatile in finding diverse employment opportunities based on their individual skills and interests. Having developed a wide range of transferable skills such as independence and self motivation they have continued to develop as professional artists or enter into a wide range of other trajectories across the creative industries; for example education, gallery and art administration, design and digital media, mural painting, conservation, illustration, theatre, television, film, music and design, etc. becoming flexible and responsive to a variety of cultural environments and industries.
