What will I study?

Duration:
One year (Short Course).

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?

How will I be assessed?
There is both coursework and an externally set assignment (exam). All the work is internally marked and is then moderated by the examination board. Coursework can take various forms but students are directed to produce a portfolio of practical work according to set assignment briefs. The externally set assignment also requires a practical response to starting points or questions set by the exam board. This is done over a number of weeks with a timed period at the end. Assessment is criteria based and the standard four key Assessment Objectives for Art and Design are used as framework to award the marks.

What can I do afterwards?
It will either form part of the Explorer Plus Level Study programme or it can be an addition to an AS or A2 programme. Students intending to study Art and Design at Higher Education level have found this course a valuable and suitable way to build their skills and broaden their portfolio. Either option gives students an opportunity to study a visual, practical subject in a well equipped and resourced area.

Are there any additional costs involved?
Materials £60. Local field trips and visits £10-£20. Gallery and museum visits £10-£20.
