Course programme
This course gives you an opportunity to try many aspects of art and design within your chosen pathway: fine art.
The broad experience and skills you acquire on this course will help you to explore your own potential and build a portfolio of work.
You will study traditional skills combined with experimental techniques, as well as contemporary art theory and practice.
You will also participate in an end-of-year exhibition of work.
You will need a portfolio of work and:
- 1 A Level and 3 GCSEs (Grades A*- C), including an A or B in Art or a closely related subject, or
- 2 A Levels and 2 GCSEs (Grades A - C), including A* or B in Art or a closely related subject, or
- 5 GCSEs (Grades A*- C), including an A or B in Art or a closely related subject, or
- BTEC Extended Diploma.
Adult students are welcome to have an interview and a review of their prior achievement.
For International students, equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered along with an IELTS score of 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill), or equivalent.
You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and presentations. Practical assessment will include a Final Major Project ending with a public exhibition of work.
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, awarded by Edexcel.
Following the course, you can progress to a range of related degree courses and a wide range of careers, including in the film and creative industries.
Last year, many of our Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students progressed to university, including a high percentage to colleges within The University of the Arts and Goldsmiths College.
