About the course
Are you a qualified first aider? Did you know that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) now strongly recommends that all first aiders attend a yearly update course to avoid loss of skills? This refresher course provides you with the opportunity to do this. Over a three and a half hour period you will have use of all training mannequins and facilities to give you the confidence and knowledge to continue to deal with first aid emergencies.

Entry requirements
Candidates will be in possession of either an Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work certificate. A good level of numeracy/literacy is also required. City College Plymouth can provide support if needed, please contact us to discuss your needs.

Course programme
What you'll learn
This course will provide you with relevant knowledge to enable you to update your skills and continue to be a qualified first aider in the workplace in accordance with regulations 3(2) of the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981.
This will include:
- assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- administering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
- administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- administering first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
- administering first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.
The course is based on the first aid at work syllabus and includes any updates and changes in accepted first aid protocols.
