Established in 1965, the Foundation programme at Carmarthen has a national reputation for excellence. It offers learners the opportunity to explore a diverse range of art and design options to enable them, through experience, to make an informed choice about future education, training and employment progression.  The programme aims to provide a challenging and dynamic environment and encourages learners to be experimental, inventive, proactive and ambitious. Initially learners explore the fundamentals of visual art through a broad range of working practices and approaches. Learners then elect to study one of the following four specialist pathways: Drawing, Painting and Print Making, 3D Art and Design, Fashion and Textiles or Visual Communication. Learners explore their ideas through workshops, assignments and independent study, and develop a greater understanding of and level of skill in their selected specialism. Timetabled workshops selected from the following list, are specific to each pathway: Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Fashion, Textiles, Theatre & Costume, Interiors, Graphics, Photography, Animation, Film, Illustration, Sculpture, Ceramics, Jewellery, Installation and performance. In the final term learners propose and complete a major project which culminates in a public exhibition. Throughout the programme, students build up a portfolio of high quality work for degree and employment interviews. Learners will complete a 120 credit diploma through a series of core and academic units. Opportunities could also be provided to complete GCSE's resits in English, Welsh and Mathematics.
