Overview
If you are interested in learning about the online world and new technology our Level 2 qualification will introduce you to the industry. Sessions will include digital portfolios, multimedia product development, and computing in the workplace. With opportunities to also study digital animation, graphics, mobile applications, software and website development, this course will give you a better understanding of the skills needed for a successful career in Information Technology.

Entry Requirements
You must have four GCSEs at grades D and above including English and maths. You will also have an interview and assessment to confirm suitability for the course. You will be required to retake GCSE English and maths during the course if a grade D has been achieved previously, or complete Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy.

Course Duration
One year, full-time.

Skills and Benefits
You will learn the skills to produce IT systems and software, websites and mobile apps, and video, graphics and animation. You will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement and visits to IT companies that will help you understand how IT is used in Business and industry, which will help you to complete your assessments. You will also continue to improve your skills in either English or maths.

Course Assessment
Assessment is by coursework assignments, including written and practical assignments, presentations, observations and special projects. You are required to work to deadlines for the completion of coursework through classroom based and independent study. The core units, The Online World and Technology Systems, are externally assessed via an online exam consisting of a combination of multi-choice and short response answers.

Progression
The qualification and skills acquired during the study programme can be used within the IT sector or in the wider job market to gain employment or apprenticeship in fields such as: Data entry clerk Helpdesk professional IT support technician Network engineer Office equipment service technician Software Developer Systems analyst The main progression route is the Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT.
