How to start writing Crime Fiction. A self-paced course for new and experienced writers. This course will suit you if you would like to expand your range as a writer and reader, learn new techniques, and experiment in new areas of creative writing. During the course you will learn the conventions of Crime Fiction, develop your own ideas for short stories and novels, start writing, and learn how to critique your work. This is a short course that runs over a month and includes four sessions which last for a week each. The learning materials include videos, podcasts, reading suggestions and downloads, practical writing exercises, and examples of good and bad practice.However, we give access for three months. All the learning materials are available 24 hours a day, and sessions you have completed remain available throughout the course for you to review. You have the option of sharing your reading and writing exercises, and discussing and critiquing your work with other students.

The course aims to enable understudies to: AIMS -This course allows you to: Explore a range of creative, practical and critical skills required to help you read and write in a specific literary genre. Widen your reading in the crime genre. Develop an understanding of the professional skills a fiction writer requires (including discipline, attention to detail, the ability to work to deadlines, editing and proofreading). Begin to identify your potential as a writer in the crime genre. Start to develop independence, autonomy and critical judgement as a writer. OUTCOMES - On completing this course you should be able to demonstrate: Greater awareness of the factors that impact upon and shape the creative process and your own practice of the craft of writing. Increasing knowledge of how writers use genre techniques. Raised awareness of the expectations and genre conventions of crime fiction. A broadened range of reading in the crime genre.
