FLORISTRY - AN INTRODUCTION
Description
The aim of this course is to help you gain an
understanding of the industry, learn some basic techniques and designs and
understand the principles and elements of design.
After completing
this course you should be able to:
List and explain the principles and
elements of design.
Demonstrate basic techniques for building an
arrangement, a wired piece and other aspects learnt on the course.
Course
Content
To investigate the principles and elements of design, the
power of colour, look at and build various designs such as arrangments,
wired pieces and bouquets using basic techniques
Where a course is
aimed towards an assessment/examination, it is expected that all students
will enter for the qualification.
Method of Assessment
Each
week a practical piece will be created to successfully demonstrate the
knowledge gained from a demonstration from the lecturer. You will be given
feedback on your creation by the tutor.
Progression
There
will be a continuation of this course in a further term which you may like
to enrol on or you might like to consider other craft courses. Please see

Materials
Scissors, apron (to protect clothes), pen and paper.
Please
be prepared for additional costs to cover materials used. A material fee
of £10 is included in the tuition fee. This will cover materials supplied
by the tutor such as wires, ribbons, etc. Students will bring their own
flowers and the tutor will tell them what they need for the following
week. Should you need any additional materials such as oases, vases, you
will be able to buy these from the tutor.
At the first session you
will make a button hole arrangement so please bring one carnation and one
rose.
