The Food Allergy Awareness Course - Eating out can be a daunting experience for people who suffer from allergies, intolerances or anaphylaxis. Their condition may require them to avoid certain foods or ingredients, with severe consequences if they came into contact with them.
As a food manufacturer, retailer, restaurant or cafe owner or food handler, it’s your responsibility to ensure that the food you manufacture, sell and serve is safe for all your customers.
This course is designed to help you gain a better understanding of allergens and how details about them can be relayed to consumers.
You will learn about common foods associated with allergies, as well as your legal duties with regards to accurately labelling and declaring allergens. A quote from the 2016 The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology congress shows the extent of this and importance of this problem: -
“Allergy is the most common chronic disease in Europe. Up to 20% of patients with allergies struggle daily with the fear of a possible asthma attack, anaphylactic shock, or even death from an allergic reaction.” (EAACI, 2016)
