Content
Students will be studying Food Preparation and Cooking NVQ 1. This introductory course is designed to help students to bridge the gap between school and a career in catering and possibly studying at NVQ level 2. Practical skills will be gained in the commercial kitchens serving to the public restaurants and diner within Tresham College.

Food prep and Cooking units on the course will deal with:

Hygiene, Working with Others, Health and Safety, Preparing Fruit and Salads, Preparing and cooking Vegetables, and preparing and cooking fish, meat and poultry.

Assessment
Practical Observation, is used as an assessment method of practical tasks. The course is mainly practical in nature but includes theory sessions, and students are required to complete written questions and answers as well as short exam style papers set by the awarding body.

Progression
This course will prepare you for entry into employment at operative level or for further study such as the Food Preparation and Service Diploma at Level 2.
