Food Preparation NVQ Level 1
GCSE Points: 140 (5 D-G GCSE)
What will I study?

You will prepare and cook various types of food using different cooking methods such as frying or baking. You will learn how to handle knives correctly and how to look after them. You will also learn general kitchen awareness including the cleaning of food, equipment and cooking areas. Hygiene when working with food is crucial and will be a key focus of the course.

How will I learn?
Your Chef Lecturer will assess you throughout the course. You will be taught a technique and then be observed putting it into practice. Details of assesments are entered a log book and will form a record of achievement.

Will there be any homework?
There may be some homework given to students, but it will not be each week. However, it must be completed on time, and handed in on the date set by your Chef Lecturer.

How long will the course take?
Half or one day a week for two years or as agreed with your school.

Where can this course lead me when I finish school?
This qualification could help your application to a full-time course at the college and eventually to a career in the catering industry. â€OEThe emphasis is on practical training in a professional setting. We have three purpose-built production kitchens, and a fully operational restaurant open to the public.â€
