About this course
You will need to be in full-time employment in the cateringindustry and also possess the NVQ Level 1 Food Preparation or City& Guilds International or City & Guilds 7061. Entry mayalso be possible with trade experience and on completion of apractical test.

This course suits those who want to work as a chef but have

What will I study?
This course is recognised by the industry as a standard
competence level for a chef. You will explore basic food hygiene,
food preparation, theory and practical skills. You will also work
with experienced professional chef lecturers to develop new
techniques and expertise and this is usually on a one day per week
basis. The hospitality school has CoVE status and has won two
prestigious national awards: Hospitality Assured and the Beacon
Award.

This can lead to a higher level course at the College, such as
the Advanced Chef's Diploma NVQ Level 3. Employment opportunities
include kitchen work as a Commis Chef or Chef de Partie and
contract supervision.

- Contract catering
- Holiday work abroad
You will need to be in full-time employment in the catering
industry and also possess the NVQ Level 1 Food Preparation or City
& Guilds International or City & Guilds 7061. Entry may
also be possible with trade experience and on completion of a
practical test.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by a portfolio of evidence, practical observation
and question and answer sessions. Students meet regularly with
tutors to help plan studies and discuss progress.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
