Aim This course gives you a starting point towards Further Education, training or employment in the Early Years sector.
Content You will cover topics that include:
· Personal development
· Human growth and development
· Food and nutrition
· Health and safety practices
· Care of children
· Play and practical activities
· Orientation to work programme.
Work placements will enable you to develop your professional skills. You will spend some block weeks in a placement setting.
You will be assessed throughout the course through written assignments, multiple choice questions, practical tasks, your work placement and portfolio work.
Progression/career opportunities
This qualification will enable you to work in support of others in a variety of settings with supervision. Alternatively successful students who gain a merit grade may wish to progress to a higher level such as the BTEC First Diploma in Health & Social Care, Level 2 Diploma in Childcare & Education or to other training areas.
Extra information All students will be required to successfully complete a CRB disclosure form. In order to attend work placements a clear CRB is required. The cost of this will be met by the student and is currently £37.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
