Introduction
This exciting, flexible, programme has been designed specifically for those who want to work in zoos and wildlife parks and for those who are already employed in the industry. You will gain hands-on practical experience with exotic species such as our own tapir, lemurs, capybara, otters and meerkats, alongside essential management skills.
This course has been carefully planned to meet the demands of the zoo industry. Our Animal Centre has an excellent reputation and contacts within the zoo community through our membership of BIAZA. The course includes many visits to key animal collections, guest speakers from the zoo world and international study tours. Our graduates have been very successful at gaining jobs in a number of leading UK zoos including Chester Zoo and Africa Alive, Suffolk.
The zoo management pathway includes specialist modules in animal husbandry and management, nutrition, conservation, zoo licensing and, for full-time students, a day of practical activities each week.

Course Structure

Core modules at Level 1 are designed to develop essential knowledge and skills and include:

Many of these modules include visits and additional practical opportunities.

Level 2 core modules shift to more research-informed study and include:

• Physiology and Genetics of Behaviour
  
• Negotiated Work-Based Learning

Requirement
A minimum of 140-160 UCAS points which must be obtained from GCE A Levels, including a Grade C in Biology, Chemistry, Human Biology or Applied Science BTEC National Diploma/Certificate in Animal Care, Animal Management or Science: merit/pass profile OCR National Diploma/Extended Diploma Irish / Scottish 4 Highers at grades CCDD including Biology, Chemistry or Human Biology Advanced GNVQ QAA recognised Access to HE Diploma (Science), Open College Units or Open University Credits in Biology-related subject For mature students (aged 21+) substantial work experience will be considered, as well as, or in place of, formal qualifications
