Foundation Degree in Ceramics
UCAS code: W270
The Programme
The course develops skills and ideas within ceramics, study includes practical and theoretical work embracing individual and group activities. A body of work prepared at each stage forms the core of assessed material, this is supplemented by written documentation, peer cooperation and presentations made by the students.
The Programme Content
The course encourages students to respond to the unique environment and ceramic traditions of North Devon whilst developing their individual skills and interests. The course reflects the importance of practising ceramicists and other designer/makers working in the area, as reflected in the galleries and other outlets aimed at both the resident and visitor.
Modules range from the development of ideas and problem solving, the exploration of ceramic techniques, business studies and professional practice. Students will be encouraged to consider wider approaches in terms of materials used. This exposure to trying out their ideas in other materials may lead to the student wishing to move permanently from clay based work but using other processes to stay within the designer/maker framework.
