About this course

Applicants should possess a Level 3 qualification such as A Levels, a BTEC National Diploma or NVQ Level 3. Applications from mature students are welcome and will be considered on evidence of ability. Mature students who fail to meet the formal requirements may gain entry at the discretion of the Programme Manager.

Introduction This new part-time programme is being offered at Stratford-upon-Avon College in partnership with Thames Valley University (TVU) and Hewlett-Packard. It has been developed in conjunction with Hewlett-Packard, one of the world's leading ICT solution providers. It delivers 'best-in-class' content, access to the latest technology and solutions, and valuable hands-on lab experience.
The Foundation Degree consists of a mixture of both academic units taught at Stratford-upon-Avon College and a series of HP qualifications taught in blocks at Thames Valley University.
Who Should Enrol?
The course is specifically designed for people in employment, working with Computers/IT or hoping to move into this field. By combining work-based learning, and short residential blocks of study you can complete a Foundation Degree and gain a raft of HP CP qualifications. There may then be a possibility of continuing for a 'top-up' year and gain a full BSc Honours degree.

What the course will cover Year One

· Software development, the essential elements of programming computers
· Introduction to the Internet, including basic web site development
· Negotiated work-based learning, using your work in business and IT
· HP Qualification:
· Server, Storage and Networking fundamentals
· Computing, Imaging and Printing fundamentals

Year Two

· Object oriented modelling, the international standard for specifying systems
· User requirements specification, how to work with end users to develop successful IT applications
· Database design and management using international standard ORACLE software
· Negotiated work-based learning, using more of your work in business and IT
· HP Qualification:
· Either the 'Technical Track'
· - Advanced Server and Networking configuration
· - Advanced Computing, Imaging and Printing configuration
· Or
· The 'Sales Track'
· - Advanced Server and Networking sales track
· - Advanced Computing, Imaging and Printing sales track

Assessment Assessment will be by completion of a series of assignments for each of the academic units. Assessment of the HP qualifications will be assessed part of blocks of study at Thames Valley University.

Fees £1,030 pa (approximately)

Training Methods Teaching and learning includes lectures, seminars and tutorials. There will also be four blocks each academic year that will cover the HP professional courses in TVU. Students will need to pay for their accommodation whilst at TVU.
