This two year, University of Hertfordshire validated course, is suitable for those intending to start a professional IT career. This University of Hertfordshire college-based programme will enable you to develop the necessary knowledge and skills that will give you a significant advantage in the job market and in your future career. It will give an excellent grounding in computing, offering a good insight into different programming techniques and an understanding of databases and networks in a business environment. This course is suitable for students aiming for a full degree but wishing to study locally, or for those who wish to gain a fully recognised HE qualification in two years. The full time course is studied over two Semesters (September to June) each year; the part time course is studied over three Semesters (September to August) each year.


  • Media Systems: You will gain a basic understanding of the issues that arise when working with digital multimedia on this pathway, as well as studying the historical development of games, educational products and e-commerce. You’ll also learn how to plan a multimedia project as well as studying aspects of creating and packaging an entertainment product for market.
  • Networks: If you choose this pathway, you will complete modules that give you an in-depth insight into the nature of computer networks, as well as experience of the practical application of networks and how they are used within organisations.
  • Software Development: This course will give you a practical grounding in emerging software development technologies. You will develop your understanding of these, culminating in a practical project where you will extend your knowledge by fulfilling a project specification.
