Qualification
Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the Foundation Degree (FdA) in Early Years Childcare and Education by Roehampton University
Attendance
One evening per week 4.30-9.30pm, approximately one Saturday per month

Description of the Course

It is essential that each student has the full support of an employer. The employer will need to provide 'mentorship' throughout the student's programme of study

Assessment
The course is divided into 10 modules. Each module has a credit value, referred to as 'CATS' credits (Credit Accumulation & Transfer Scheme).
In Year 1, 120 credits at Level 1 must be gained from successful completion of the prescribed modules. In year 2, a further 120 credits must be gained, making a total of 240 credits.
Students who have accumulated the full 240 credits will then have the option to progress to an honours degree
Students will be visited regularly at their place of employment and will be assigned a Personal Tutor to support their progress
Who is the course for?

Entry requirements
All applicants will have a minimum ofone year continuous experience working in a relevant Early Years setting. They are likely to come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds and may not previously have had the opportunity to access a university education.
Students will normally have a minimum of one of the following Level 3 qualifications:
Appropriate A-Levels or Vocational A-Level equivalent
NVQ/SVQ at Level 3 or other appropriate vocationally related NQF level 3 qualification
Level 3 Apprenticeship in Early Years or other appropriate subject.
Students should be able to demonstrate competence (through qualification and experience) of knowledge and practice related to:health and safety issues in a relevant Early Years playwork or teaching assistant setting, the physical development of children from birth to their eighth year, or they will need to provide evidence against the additional learning outcomes which are based on two National Occupational Standards in the Level 3 NVQ/SVQ for Early Years Care and Education
What can I do after this course?
On successful completion of the programme students will have an opportunity of progressing to an honours degree and/or gaining a recognised teaching qualification or Early Years Professional Status.

Students may secure sponsorship for their studies from their employer. Students are eligible to apply for funds from the government's Higher Education Student Loan Scheme and to their Local Education Authority for help with paying tuition fees
