Course description:
You should be employed in an Early Years setting and have at least 2 years experience working directly with children aged 0-8. This could include working as a teaching assistant, learning support assistant, early years practitioner or play worker. You should have a level 3 qualification e.g. NVQ L3 in Early Years/CCLD or Teaching Assistants; CACHE/EDEXCEL National Certificate or Diploma in Childcare and Education; 40 UCAS tariff points from, e.g., 1 GCE A2 pass or a six unit AVCE; interview/written assessment or AP(E)L.
Applicants should also have a Level 2 National Test in Literacy and Numeracy or be prepared to complete these qualifications during the course. Competence in IT skills is desirable.
Course content:
Year 1 - Modules in Development Matters, Working with Children (Key Players), Value of Play, Professional Development Portfolio 1
Year 2 - 2 Core Modules: Professional Development Portfolio 2 and Project. Specialist modules: Early Years Foundation Stage - The Expressive Child; The Enquiring Child; Well Being and Enabling Environments.
Teaching methods:
A variety of methods will be used including Lectures, Seminars, Tutorials, Workshops, e Learning and Workplace Learning.
Course assessment:
Assessment will be carried out using a range of methods including case studies, portfolio, reflective reports, presentations, essays and a research proposal.
