For entry to the Foundation Degree in Fashion Retail Management you should have:

• 1 A Level grade C or above in related subject or
• BTEC National Diploma at Level 3 or Advanced GNVQ in Business or related subject or
• Fashion Retail Diploma Level 3 at grade Merit or above or
• Related Access course with 48 credits and
• any of the above plus passes in a minimum of 4 GCSE subjects (including English and Maths at grade C or above)

Course programme

The course sees the exciting collaboration between London College of Fashion and the Fashion Retail Academy. The course will be taught at the Fashion Retail Academy and London College of Fashion. You will benefit from the wide range of industry links available at both institutions such as Selfridges and Arcadia Group, Marks and Spencer and many more. Retail management is a growing area of employment and this course incorporates specific business skills and knowledge with a key understanding of the fashion industry.

Structure

The curriculum will address practical and professional skills in communication, negotiation and presentation. You will have the opportunity to tailor your course through the selection of elective units relevant to your current course of study in the second year. Specialist units in the first year will include Fashion Retail Principles and Fashion Retail Skills. Second year specialist units include Fashion Retail Operations and Fashion Retail Management Practice. At the end of the second year you will undertake your Negotiated Individual Project, which will provide you with the opportunity to apply the range of skills and knowledge developed on the course to a simulated professional fashion retail management scenario requiring research and analytical skills. Assessment is continuous and methods include written reports, case studies, essays, presentations and integrated projects.

Demand is growing for well-informed fashion retail managers who can increase profitability, reduce waste and shrinkage, increase productivity and effectiveness whilst providing better customer service and increasing staff morale. To do this you need specific skills and knowledge which you will gain on this course.

What next after Foundation Degree in Fashion Retail Management?

Once you have completed the FdA Fashion Retail Management you will be ideally suited to take up employment as a junior manager or join a graduate management programme. Alternatively, if you have a merit certification, you will have the opportunity to be interviewed for the Honours degree programme at London College of Fashion. You will need to complete a bridging programme before the top up year and on successful completion of the bridging programme and the top up year; you will graduate with a BA (Hons) Fashion: Fashion Retail Management.

Admission Requirements

For entry to the Foundation Degree in Fashion Retail Management you should have:

• 1 A Level grade C or above in related subject or
• BTEC National Diploma at Level 3 or Advanced GNVQ in Business or related subject or
• Fashion Retail Diploma Level 3 at grade Merit or above or
• Related Access course with 48 credits and
• any of the above plus passes in a minimum of 4 GCSE subjects (including English and Maths at grade C or above)

Applicants whose first language is not English must show proof of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent language qualification prior to enrollment. This course requires minimum 80 UCAS points. As a guide related subject areas include Business Studies, Media Studies, Economics, Fashion Studies, Information Technology and Languages. You should be both business focused and have a creative interest in fashion retail management as these two areas will meld together throughout the course. It will be valuable if you have or are willing to gain (in holiday periods) some shop floor retail experience in a full-time or part-time part time capacity.
