About this course
Applicants will be considered from the following groups: Students with the equivalent pass in two subjects at Advanced level supported by passes in four other subjects at GCSE (grade C or above). Students on Foundation Diploma, National Diploma or AVCE/GNVQ Level 3 courses. Students without these qualifications will also be considered and applications are welcome from mature students, candidates with professional experience and students with non â€" standard qualifications who are able to demonstrate creative ability evidenced through a portfolio at interview

This disciplined training and exploration will develop your creative ability and technical skills to help you gain employment within related industries or will help enable you to complete a (Hons) Degree through Northumbria University.
Course content:
The course comprises of modules of study, planned and structured to give students a systematic, coherent and cumulative experience.
Year 1:
basic pattern cutting
garment construction
visual studies
textile exploration
art and fashion in the 20C (historical)
professional practice
Year 2:
Industrial placement
Independent study (Pattern cutting, Visual studies, Textiles)
Art and fashion in the 20C (contextual)
Professional Practice.
Course structure:
The programme is delivered through practical and hands on workshops and projects, lectures, seminars, demonstrations and work based learning. You will be encouraged to link with other disciplines across the college to promote ideas and development.
It is anticipated that South Tyneside College will have new printing facilities to complement the already existing excellent pattern, garment and textile production equipment.
The college has close working links with major National and International Fashion and Textile companies who underpin the professional work based learning throughout the course with live projects and work placements.

Progression opportunities:
The two year programme is aimed at preparing students for employment within a related industry, however for those students wishing to continue their studies and subject to interview, a further two years at Northumbria University will allow students the opportunity to gain a BA Hons in Fashion/Fashion Marketing.
Employment opportunity is available within related industries, adult education, leisure classes, outreach activity and community related events. Other opportunities will normally require graduates to complete the full BA (Hons) Degree at Northumbria University.
