Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering
In Partnership with University of Greenwich

This is designed to provide you with a comprehensive coverage of mechanical engineering theory and work practice. It will you a broad understanding of relevant engineering industries and practical knowledge of the key principles and techniques necessary in employment.

It is expected that you will be employed or able to undertake work placements. You should have an active interest in the engineering industries.

  • Applied Science and Systems Technology
  • Work-based Learning Project
  • Mechanical Principles
Duration:
You will take 16 modules over two years, on a full time basis.

Entry Requirements:
You must have 5 GCSE passes, including English Language or Use of English and at least one of the following:

1 x GCE A level OR 2 x AS Levels to at least grade B, including any of Mathematics, Physics, IT, or Design Technology (at least one of the A or AS levels should be Maths or Physics);

OR BTEC National Diploma; OR Advanced GNVQ/AVCE; OR Access course with at least grade C; OR equivalent qualification

OR demonstration of relevant work-based experience and successfully completed in-house training - evidence will be required and will be assessed for suitability.

Mature applicants are encouraged to return to study to gain or enhance their qualifications. Applicants are interviewed.

Includes projects, reports, essays, presentations, practical work and examinations.

Progression:
You will be equipped for a range of careers as a technician engineer in areas such as design engineering, industrial electronics, manufacturing and the petrochemical and process industries. Alternatively you may wish to progress to study on the final year of the Engineering Technology degree at the University of Greenwich or on to the second or third year of an engineering degree at a number of HEIs.

Additional information:
There will be the opportunity for group trips to relevant engineering companies in the local region. There is likely to be an additional cost to students for these trips.

  • Course provider history
  • 1947 heralded the start of Canterbury Technical College being established as a separate entity. This is when the decision to split further education classes from secondary school work was made.2006 - 2009January 2006 saw the appointment of Alison Clarke as Principal of Canterbury College. This was the year the college buildings were redesigned. 2007 saw the completion of Phase 1 of the buildings redevelopment, which included the new Children’s Centre, Technology Centre, Land Based Centre, Motor Vehicle Centre and the Post 16 Centre which houses modern class rooms, study rooms and science laboratories.Phase 2 of the redevelopment, completed in December 2007 gives the college a unique, street-like layout which has ‘front of house’ services open to the public including a snack shop, a travel shop and restaurant complete with training facilities.
