Information about the course

This two year full-time programme is one of seven titles being offered under the umbrella award of Creative Enterprise Foundation Degree at West Herts College. The programme has been developed and will be administered by the University of Hertfordshire.

It is designed to give students the opportunity to develop their creative and practical skills in media production to a very high level. Students will study core modules such as Creative Languages, Entrepreneurship and Skills Processes & Technologies, whilst focusing on the art of Film and T.V. programme making in their Specialist Media project modules. These are part of a range of vocational projects allowing students to develop the skills needed to survive in the highly competitive world of film and television.

There will be a strong emphasis on innovative industry linked work in all fields with students being asked to respond to briefs in a creative and considered way, evaluating their own work as they progress. On completion of the programme students will have a portfolio of five short fiction and factual films. Visiting lecturers who are currently working in the industry will also be contributing to students' knowledge.

Students will be encouraged to become highly creative, professionals who have a sound knowledge of the industry in which they will work. This programme will prepare students for progression into employment or on to the final year of a relevant Media BA Honours Degree at the University of Hertfordshire.

The programme addresses the thinking, processes, attitudes and skills that are common to all creative activities. It provides a structure that enables students from a variety of starting-points to develop their own creativity within a context provided by the industries and organisations that utilise this creativity. The creative sector is comprehensively mapped by national, regional and local organisations and there is a common view as to their extent. This largely informs the award titles to be offered in the Foundation Degree programme, namely:

Student work on the programme is generated by project briefs that deliver structured opportunities to meet module learning outcomes, within scenarios that reflect current vocational practice
