Progression to our one year BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course. This course progression will develop those skills necessary for postgraduate professional training and entry to the professional Performing Arts industry.
The course provides high quality practical training that integrates strong academic and theoretical approaches with performance work. The first year focuses on the development of skills and discipline in the ‘triple threat’ style of acting, singing and dance. These skills form a core foundation to theory-led practice, with exploration of practitioners and critical theories supporting the practicality of musical theatre making. Throughout the second year, you will work as a member of a repertory musical theatre company. Skills classes will continue alongside the production of a studio based Musical Theatre performance, a cabaret and a full-scale Musical Theatre production. First year classes include: Acting technique; Acting Through Song; Dance (Ballet, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Commercial, Contemporary); Singing; Voice; Musical Theatre Repertoire; Critical Analysis. Assessed projects include: Acting Scene Presentation; Song Presentation; Community Outreach; Dance Showcase; Musical Theatre Excerpt Presentation. In the second year, students continue with technical classes as well as undertaking assessed projects which include studio and main theatre performed full Musical Theatre productions and professional preparation projects. It is expected that all students will support their work by undertaking external 1-on-1 singing tuition outside of the course.
