FOUNDATION DEGREE IN NEW MEDIA DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

Course Aims:
A Foundation Degree (FdSc) is the first two years of a university degree, incorporating a period of work placement.

FdSc New Media Design & Technology will prepare students for a career as a professional web designer or interactive multimedia author.

The course covers a range of disciplines including web design, artistic design, creating interactive multimedia content, 2D & 3D graphics animation, audio & video editing and technical skills in computer networking.

Course Content:
New Media Design & Technology (hardware and software for multimedia work; file formats; operation of computer networks)
2D Computer Graphics (traditional and modern image-making; Photoshop)
Interactive Media Production (web design using HTML / XHTML and CSS; meeting audience needs; search engine optimisation)
JavaScript (creating interactive webpages)
Creative & Technical Development (major projects developing practical skills and project management techniques)
3D Computer Graphics (build and animate 3D models using industry-standard CGI software)
Interactive Flash with ActionScript (create Flash animations and interactive materials for web or CD-ROM)
Contextual Studies (art & design; key concepts and professional practices)
Interactive Product Authoring (audio & video editing; DVD authoring)
Work Placement (200 hours of applied on-the-job project work)

Progression:
Successful students will have the option to top-up to a full B.Sc. honours degree at the University of Central Lancashire.

Awarding Body:
University of Central Lancashire (subject to validation)

Exam:
Modules are assessed by a combination of coursework and formal exams.

Duration:
A two-year full-time course of study; three years part-time.
