Entry requirements - candidates should demonstrate evidence of numeracy and literacy skills (eg GCSE passes at grade C or above in Mathematics and English). All applicants for this programme will be expected to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced disclosure procedure.

Who is the course for?
Anyone who has an interest in coaching, whether you are an experienced coach who wishes to improve knowledge and skills, or an inexperienced coach who wishes to persue a career in this area of sport.

What is the course about?
This course is an integrated approach to work based learning, providing the opportunity to gain vocational experience which will link directly into a range of related employment opportunities. in the first year you will study modules which include Sport and the Community, Coaching Process and Practice, and Applied Sport Performance and Evaluation. You will also have the opportunity to develop academic and personal skills. In the second year you will study Scientific Aspects of Sports Performance, Applied Coaching in the Community, Developing Sports Performance and will have the opportunity to develop employability and professional skills in a vocational setting. You will also have the opportunity to undertake additional qualifications in coaching, first-aid, child protection etc. Work placement is a key element of the programme and this will be undertaken in the second year.

Will I need anything else?
A general sports kit will be required.

How long & often do I attend?
Timetables will be confirmed at enrolment. Attendance is expected to be over 2- 3 days a week. This is a two year course.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments will be through a variety of methods including planning and coaching practical sessions, writing essays and reports, and giving prsentations. Assessments will also take place in the workplace.

What opportunities will this lead to?
This course is recommended for students who wish to persue a career in coaching or instructing in sports clubs or in the community. Graduates of the course will be suitably prepared to persue a coaching related career and will be entitled to progress onto the final year of the BSc (HONS) Coaching and Performance Development programme at Edge Hill University.
