The Programme
The programme has been designed so as to ensure a high level of academic quality, and an optimal vocational relevance.
You will attend lectures, seminars, workshops, off site visits and practical activities. In addition to this you will undertake personal research projects and event organisation activities. The nature of the assessed work is such that you will be afforded numerous opportunities to specialise in areas which are of particular interest to you.
The Programme Content
Many professional roles in the sports industry require an all round knowledge of a number of sports related areas. To ensure that students develop this broad understanding, and therefore versatility, the modular content of the programme is wide ranging. Content includes sports science, business, health and fitness, coaching, event organisation and media.
You will be required to undertake a substantial work placement project in an aspect of the industry of your choice, and as a result of this and other industry related tasks, you will come into contact with and work with local employers.
Module Descriptions
Modules such as 'Human Performance in Sports', 'Health & Fitness Principles', and 'Health Promotion' are concerned with understanding how sports performance and health & fitness status can be developed by utilising sound scientific principles. You will learn the principles of providing and organising events in 'Principles of Sports Development', 'Sports Provision for Special Populations' and 'Event Management'. The 'Sports Coaching' module will develop your ability to interact with client groups, and the 'Independent Sports Study' and 'Research Methods' modules enable you to investigate a subject of your own choice to develop expertise in preferred areas. A recently added module, 'The Media and Sport', allows you to study the sociological impact of popular media coverage of sport.
