Foundation Degree in Supporting Childhood Development and Learning The Foundation Degree (FDEd) provides a model of vocational higher education based on close collaboration between employers and providers of higher education. They are intended for people with at least two years' experience of working in an institution within the care and education sectors, such as child care, play-work, teaching assistants or learning support assistants. The focus is on skills and their application in the workplace, underpinned by academic knowledge and understanding.
The expectation is that the majority of students successfully completing the programme will continue to work in their settings or schools. If students follow further study, they may obtain an honours degree followed by Qualified Teacher Status or Early Years Professional Status.
